Safe Work Australia Week: 23 to 29 October 2011

“National Safe Work Australia Week encourages awareness from all working Australians to get involved in and concentrate on safety in their workplace,” said John Alexander, Federal MP for Bennelong.

“More than 220 Australians die as a result of work related injuries and over 134 000 are seriously injured every year. National Safe Work Australia Week reminds us all that safety in the workplace should always be the top priority.”

“Now is the perfect time to start thinking about the value your workplace puts on safe work practices and areas which may need improvement.”

In the lead up National Safe Work Australia Week, John Alexander visited Meadowbank TAFE and participated in a metal work class for Royal Australian Navy students.

“It was very pleasing to observe the emphasis placed upon workplace safety by TAFE NSW. This was reflected in the methods used by the Royal Australian Navy students in the class.”

“The Royal Australian Navy has a strong history in Bennelong. It is great to see these traditions continue with the Meadowbank TAFE courses emphasising the importance of workplace safety to RAN students,” Mr Alexander concluded.

John Alexander’s first Parliamentary Private Members Motion recognised the Centenary of the Royal Australian Navy and the unique role of the Bennelong region in our Navy’s history. This Motion was passed unanimously by Federal Parliament.
