Bennelong residents should be wary of unsolicited phone calls and letters offering unclaimed money. These are elaborate scams.

I have been contacted by several distressed constituents that had received phone calls from fast-talking scammers with convincing stories.

If you receive a phone call or letter of this nature, do not provide any personal information.

COALITION’S NBN will deliver residents with more affordable fast broadband, says Alexander

Bennelong residents and businesses will benefit from the Coalition’s plan to build a more affordable NBN and deliver it sooner than Labor’s NBN John Alexander, Member for Bennelong said today.

“Kevin Rudd promised everyone in Australia fast broadband by 2013 at a cost of $4.7 billion. Instead, the NBN has only signed up 10,400 users for its fibre network and the final cost is expected to be more than $90 billion.

Superannuation and the proposed changes by Labor

Mr. John Alexander, Member for Bennelong says Labor must rule out making any retrospective changes to superannuation.

“We can’t allow Julia Gillard to raid the individual retirement savings of residents in Bennelong as a way of trying to cover up her budget black hole”, said John Alexander.

Local pharmaceutical company Merck Sharp and Dohme helping Hepatitis C

John Alexander MP, Member for Bennelong is pleased to announce changes to the PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefit Scheme) in relation to Hepatitis C. “It is with much relief that Victrelis and Incivo for Hepatitis C has been included on the PBS,” said Mr. Alexander. "These breakthrough medicines represent new hope for patients with hepatitis C."

Ride2School Day

John Alexander, Member for Bennelong is encouraging local schools to participate in one of this year’s biggest physical activity events, the seventh annual National Ride2School Day on Friday 22nd March 2013.

“This is a great event, where children, teachers and parents are encouraged to ride, walk, scoot or skate to school,” said Mr. Alexander. “It helps promote the benefits of physical activity and active transport to the health and well being of our children.”

Zero Tolerance To Violence Against Woman

“Last Friday’s assault on a female student at Macquarie University should remind us all of the importance of zero tolerance for violence against women,” Bennelong MP John Alexander said today.

“NSW Police have confirmed that the student was asleep in her bedroom at Macquarie University Villages when the incident occurred at 3.00am last Friday. In our local community women should feel comfortable walking on our streets and most certainly should be safe in their own homes,” Mr Alexander said.

Seniors Week 2013

John Alexander MP, Member for Bennelong is delighted to be hosting a seniors morning tea with The Hon Victor Dominello Member for Ryde at San Antonio Nursing Home as part of Seniors Week.

“In many cultures seniors are considered a treasure to the family,” said Mr. Alexander “Our senior population has been and will continue to be valuable assets, not just to each family but to society at large.  As parents and grandparents they play a vital role as caregivers and teacher to our young.”

The latest decision of the Gillard Government to increase private health insurance premiums by 5.6% will drive even more people out of private health insurance says John Alexander, Member for Bennelong.

“Every year under the Rudd/Gillard Government, Australian families have experienced private health insurance increases above the rate of inflation”, said Mr Alexander.

Clean Up Australia Day

Member for Bennelong Mr. John Alexander is encouraging Bennelong residents to join this weekend’s Clean Up Australia Day. “This is Australia’s biggest community participation event,” said Mr. Alexander. “It has been running for more than 20 years and has become an important community event, bringing together local residents to clean up their parks, beaches, creeks and rivers.”

DEATH OF WOOLLARAWAREE BENNELONG

WOOLLARAWAREE BENNELONG died at Kissing Point(now known as Putney, in Sydney's North West) on 3 January 1813, and was buried in the orchard of the brewer James Squire, a great friend to Bennelong and his clan. 

Christmas Hampers with North Ryde Community Aid and Information Centre

NRCA is a community based, non‐government, not‐for‐profit organisation that provides community services to the frail aged, people with disabilities, the carers of these community members, and the socially or financially disadvantaged.

 

Habitat Nursery Opening, Ryde

Federal Member for Bennelong Mr. John Alexander MP was delighted to attend the opening of The Habitat – community native plant nursery and community food garden on Saturday 3rd November, 2012.

 The Habitat is a partnership between the community, International Weed Foundation and its Habitat network and City of Ryde. The Habitat is a community food garden and community nursery that specialises in growing plants native to the Ryde area.
