JA JOINS RESIDENTS TO SAVE TENNIS WORLD

North Ryde Residents have my support in their bid to save Tennis World as a community recreation facility.

I spoke in parliament on 20thMarch 2013 about the importance of keeping the southern side of Epping Road residential and recreational.

The local community have been campaigning to stop development on this side of Epping Road, and I am making every effort to support their campaign.

 On Australia Day we come together to celebrate all the wonderful things about our great nation.  Throughout our history Australians have demonstrated again and again our capacity and determination to make our country a better place. The way our community has united in response to the recent fires across the eastern states of Australia highlights the amazing Aussie traditions of mateship, strength and honour we all hold so dear.

ALEXANDER REJECTS SUGGESTED AIRCRAFT CAP AND CURFEW CHANGES

John Alexander today reaffirmed his commitment to Sydney Airport’s existing curfew and cap on hourly movements.

"Aircraft noise is an issue of great concern for many Bennelong constituents – from Carlingford across Epping, Marsfield, North Ryde, East Ryde and Gladesville. More flights over more hours equal more noise problems for these communities.

Bennelong Village Businesses

As your Member of Parliament I regularly visit with local shop keepers to discuss business conditions in our local community. The village shops in our neighbourhood are an important asset that offer us great convenience, personal service and also help to build a stronger community.

Soaring electricity prices, aggressive marketing practices from major retailers and record amounts of government red tape have created huge challenges for our local shopping villages to survive.

On Thursday 18th October, John Alexander MP held the first ever international sporting event to be played in the Great Hall Parliament House.

This event is part of the Bennelong Cup Table Tennis Competition which Mr. Alexander started last year.

 

Korean Festival of 2012

On Saturday 6th October I had the great pleasure of attending the official opening ceremony of the Korean Festival at Eastwood Park Eastwood. The Korean/Australian relationship celebrated it's 50th year last year and the Consul-General of the Republic of Korea Mr. Jin Soo Kim spoke about 2012 being the beginning of the next 50 year relationship between the two countries. I was honoured to speak at this event about the economic and social benefit the large Korean community in Eastwood have contributed to Bennelong, promoting harmony and economic vision.

Local Students at Space Camp U.S.A

During the September school holidays, Eastwood Public School embarks on an ambitious excursion led by the assistant Principal, Ms. Jackie Slaviero. It involves a group of children from years 5 and 6 travelling to the U.S.A. to learn about science, technology and space at the Space Camp facility in Alabama.

The recent announcement that Queensland’s Cubbie Station will be sold to a group of international buyers has raised strong levels of concern for our future prosperity and food security. Earlier today the Prime Minister welcomed back the plane carrying Australia’s Olympic team. With great fanfare she immersed herself in the celebration of Australia’s sporting achievements.

There are many stories that have come out of the Olympic Games, but few can rival the silver medal won by Australia’s youngest Olympian, sixteen year old platform diver Brittany Broben.

After an assortment of handstands and backflips it took Brittany a two-and-a-half somersault with one-and-a-half twists to ultimately claim second place.

This year marks 40 years since the commencement of diplomatic relations between Australia and China, and 209 years since the first record of Chinese migration to the colonies that became our nation.

Both of these events provided important milestones in the development of a strong and dynamic interaction between the two nations and the growth of a vibrant community of Chinese Australians that has contributed to all facets of our nation’s advancement.
